Just finished talking to my mum on the phone. Well to be exact, a call made through the laptop actually as usual. She happily told me about her growing watermelon plant which she very much looked forward to see the edible outcome of it.
My parents love to garden and plant vegetables, fruit and flower trees around the house and in our backyard that they have planted various types of them they sometimes went rotten to excess. We actually have grown a watermelon plant years ago but it didn't come to a success as whenever a bud of watermelon appeared, naughty hands of a culprit [gotta be one of us] would come close to touch and feel the cute little striped bud. It happened about every time a bud developed that at last we never got to taste the fruit as the buds didn't continue to grow or got squashed or whatever the unpleasant ending was. The family now believes that the failure of the buds to nourish might have been due to the nasty fingers that touched them earlier where it could have been an absolute no-no for a developing fruit.
This time around the seeds that my mum cultivated sprouted and is flourishing. Even I pulled my mum's leg by mocking that I bet we'd never going to get to taste the watermelon for sure! Rather, she remains positive still despite my everyone else's paradoxical belief against that. So far she's got around 6 or so tiny budding watermelons at the size of the match's tip!
Hilariously today she told me the 'challenges' she faced regarding her watermelon plant when we spoke on the phone. This all happened when my parents were outside looking after their green-yard where at that time no watermelon buds had come out yet.
Scene 1
"The truck has come, the truck has come!"- Dad
"What truck?"- Mum
"The truck to pick up your watermelons"- Dad
Scene 2
"It's been so hard these days"- Dad
"What do you mean?"- Mum
"It's been so hard to walk in this yard"- Dad
"Why is that so?"- Mum
"Your watermelons are scattered everywhere!"- Dad
I can't help but laughing my head off as my mum described me the story over the phone. Guess what that wasn't the end of it. My mum took revenge.
That afternoon my dad got home from work, had his meal in the house as usual and then went down to have a look at his plantation as per his everyday routine. My mum pretended knowing nothing.
A couple of minutes later my dad suddenly darted back up into the house, breathless with trembling hands looking for my mum bemoaning "You tried to trick me!". My mum just laughed as she looked at my dad's reaction to the shock he received.
It wasn't really something too big to be surprised of really but probably because my dad had been teasing my mum about her watermelon plant all along, that day he nearly jumped out of his skin seeing a huge watermelon hidden beneath the abounding leaves of my mother's watermelon plantation. When he came close and had a careful look at the fruit then only he realised that the fruit apparently wasn't connected to the plant.
Chronologically that morning prior my mum bought a watermelon off the market and purposely put the fruit in the middle of the watermelon plantation to deceive my dad. Smart plan wasn't it?
So I suppose now no one would ever have the gut to undermine my mum's watermelon plant anymore.
We'll see if it'll prove 'fruitful'.
An MMS picture of the trick.
P/s: I miss home..~
