The World, From My Eyes

"I step aside, turn around and look naively at the world evolving around me. I surprise myself for things I've taken for granted. It's about the tiny little piece of thoughts hailed from the bottom of my mind. It's about an appreciation, expression, discovery, compassion or simply a random scribble of a soul. I believe that life's too precious to be squandered away with the mundane. It's my life. And I'm living it. The world from my eyes, an utter manifestation."

Blueberry and 6th tooth

I went absolutely out of idea what recipe should I use for Maryam's meals this week that I began flipping through my previous blog posts. Anyway I came up with these:

  • Oats + apples + blueberries
  • Baby rice + potatoes + chicken + peas + mango
  • Sweet potato + butternut squash + carrot + Chinese Gong pear

Yeah I know, less vege this time round and quite some repetition of stuff. And that mango combo looks a bit odd but as long as my baby loves it, I couldn't care less!

Oh have I told you Maryam is cutting her 6th tooth on her lower jaw, on the right next to her central incisors (lateral incisor that is). *happyhappy*

Alhamdulillah 'ala kulli hal.

Cabbage

The other day Maryam joined us at the dinner table for a while before we began eating. There was half-boiled broccoli on the table so I gave it a bit to chunk it up and put it in Maryam's mouth. She enjoyed two chunks of them that her cheeks puffed up with the vege. As a broccoli fan myself I am so delighted that Maryam eats broccoli, raw. In fact I actually am happy that she eats vegetables! Alhamdulillah, she probably has become used to the taste now as nearly every week I have them in Maryam's meals. Hihi. Broccoli overdose? Hope not!

Before I forget let me quickly share with you guys my latest recipes for Maryam this week.

Oat porridge with mangoes
Maryam is a big fan of mangoes (so is her mom). I found some of them in the fridge so I decided to use them for Maryam's food this week. Similar to last week, I heated up the pan, poured in some water to boil and added in 3 cups of rolled oats. I waited for them to soften and get soaked-up, adding in water as necessary. Meanwhile I peeled the skin of 2 mangoes and cut the flesh into small cubes. When the oat is ready I simply threw them into the food processor together with the mangoes. Maryam of course loves it (so does her mom).

Chicken+ baby rice + cabbage + tomato+ potato + chinese gong pear (Lai fruit)
I steamed the potatoes and Lai fruit separately as the rice cooker was too small to accommodate the whole lot above. I guess it doesn't really matter. I added in the tomato a bit late into the rice cooker, that the rice and everything else in it had cooked at that time. Tomato is already soft and can be eaten raw so I don't really mind about the short duration of the fruit being cooked.

Chicken + sweet potato + carrot + broccoli + apples
Very similar to the cooking method above, but all the above are steamed them poured into the food processor. As simple as that!

Flapjack and corn

I've used 2 of the 3 new ingredients I showed to you in my previous entry. Fuh finally they were moved from above my fridge- the place where I stash foods I buy. So now time for new recipes new recipes woot woot.

When I was cooking yesterday (ya, I was literally 'cooking' Maryam's food yesterday) it crossed my mind that I felt as if I was a budding Annabel Karmel or Jamie Oliver for kiddos. Huhu. Maybe I should write a book after this to compile my recipes. And when it becomes a bestseller book I will get famous and rich! Cool! (Pardon my extreme imagination) After all from imagination comes reality isn't it?

Let's cut the crap and get back to business.

Oats, apples and raisins
This one is pretty simple. Maryam was completely out of her food yesterday that the food I cooked would be directly served to her. She was waiting while I was drenched in my own sweat. Normally I would still have some more in the freezer and the food I cooked was just meant to be stored for use on the day after or so.
First bring water to boil, then add the apples and chopped raisins. I used three apples and just a handful of raisins. Actually initially I thought of not blending the puree to teach Maryam to eat more lumpy food. However I changed my plan I ended up pouring them into the food processor so the raisins mighn't need to be chopped at all to begin with. When I think that the apples have become soft enough I added in 3 cups of rolled oats, the most nutritious and easily prepared oat. I topped up some more water into the pot as the water dried up pretty quickly, until I felt that the oat was cooked well and ready for serving.
I have always loved oat flapjacks, used to buy plenty of them in Eyre Square in Ireland. This cooking gives out smell so similar to oat flapjacks, in fact the ingredients are also similar. Miss miss.

Salmon, sweet potato, broccoli, Chinese Gong pear and baby rice
This does not have much difference with my previous recipes. This type of combination has become like a template or default for my recipes. I want my baby to have the tongue of a Malay, which means I want her to eat rice so I decided to add in rice too although I already put quite a good amount of sweet potatoes. Also to make the meal a bit heavier and seeing that the other recipes I make for her this week don't have rice in them.
Sweet potatoes, pears and rice all go into the rice cooker. Salmon was steamed with broccoli added a bit later.

Potato, sweetcorn, carrot and beef
New food introduced to Maryam: corn. I got my SIL to buy raw corn for Maryam. She found one which was so sweet, nice to be eaten on its own. The corn is 'seeded' off the cob and brought to boil till cooked. In a separate pot corned beef is also brought to boil and kept aside. Carrot and potatoes are steamed in the steamer to soften.

Alhamdulillah Maryam tried them all and liked them all. I also had a taste of them on my fingertips and thought the one containing salmon was the yummiest, promise. I was being quite watchful as to if Maryam will develop allergic reactions to what I prepared for her yesterday, given a few of new foods were introduced all on the same day. Am still watching out for them but alhamdulillah everything is fine so far.

That's all folks.
May this be beneficial for you.

Beef, celery and tomatoes

I made a huge leap today by not conforming to my usual way of introducing new foods to Maryam. Instead of exposing her to one new food at a time I introduced three in one go this time around. As per this entry's title, they were beef, celery and tomatoes.

The reason? Well, I think Maryam is a big girl already (she's turning 10 months old soon!) and I believe (and pray) that she will be able to tolerate them all, AND silently hope that she will love them all too.

I was quite confounded at first thinking how should I prepare the beef. Should I buy a pack of minced beef, what if they came from overseas like Australia- would there be preservatives in them to make them look fresh? Should I buy prepared minced beef produced by local brands like Ramly, would there be too much trans-fat in them? Should I use beef bought at the market them chop them off into tiny pieces then blend, would it result in a size suitable for Maryam to swallow? Or should I get that meat grinder to prepare the beef?

Anyways eventually I went the traditional way of slicing the beef that was brought off the market, into as small a piece as it can possibly exist. Then I boiled them in a pot till the water dried up. Then I poured them into the food processor before adding in the other ingredients. It ended up being a bit watery 'cause I didn't get rid of the water used for boiling the beef, but not too watery though. Just a bit thin in consistency as compared to the other puree that I made tonight.

Here are the recipes:

  • Sweet potatoes + a tbsp of cube-cut apple + a tbsp of cube-cut pear + banana
  • Chicken + apples + tomatoes + kacang panjang + baby rice
  • Beef + carrot + potatoes + celery + pears

Alhamdulillah 'ala kulli hal.

Blueberry bash

And so it's my weekly routine of hitting the kitchen again, preparing Maryam's meal. I just realised that it is actually pretty exciting playing this game of throwing anything I could think of into the steamer and blender and use the trial-and-error theory to see if Maryam will gobble them down her throat or not. Above all, I achieved this satisfying feeling of getting to 'cook' Maryam's dishes myself, a step towards being a caring and responsible momma, sort of :).

Anyways yeah as per the entry title I bashed in some blueberries into Maryam's new recipe today. Inspired by the Muller Rice, similar to the previous strawberry recipe what I put in were as below:

Blueberries + apples + baby rice

And the colour turned out to be that yummylicious purple carrot-like purple (err, that's why purple carrot is called purple carrot isn't it). So tempting. I had a taste of it on my fingertips and I thought it wasn't too bad at all. Well, I used to make a worse-tasting meal for her hehe, but she liked it regardless.

Out of not knowing what other recipes could I invent, I came up with these pretty random  combinations:

Asparagus + carrot + potatoes + Chinese Gong pear + chicken + baby rice

Broccoli + butternut squash + peas + Chinese Gong pear + chicken

Just sharing with ye, peas pair up very well with broccoli. The scent they produce is simply tantalizing and saliva-drooling (I always have this perception that cooked broccoli tastes and smells like peanuts).

Actually while I'm typing this I am waiting for the bottom 2 meals to become ready before I take them out of the steamer, and blend them in the food processor.

Hope Maryam'll like them all. InsyaAllah.

Easy peasy

Yup, easy peasy recipe attempted today for my favourite girl. Literally PEAS-y.

A step-up today, I prepared 3 different meals for Maryam for the week. Was wondering if I would be short of baby food storage container, but alhamdulillah it was actually an excess though not that many.

I was thinking of starting to introduce meals three times a day for Maryam. Still not too sure if the time has come for that or two meals are actually more than enough for her. I decided to give it a go this week.

The new recipes:

  • Peas + butternut squash + broccoli + chicken breast
  • Potato + carrot + asparagus + Chinese gong pears + rice porridge + chicken
  • Sweet potato + apple (light)

I stored the light meal nearly half the amount of the other two, as it serves more like a dessert to top up rather than as a main fulfilling meal.

Hope she'll like them all and doesn't develop any adverse reaction to them particularly to the new ingredient I have added in- the peas.

Ah finally the peas are in!

Alhamdulillah 'ala kulli hal.

Recipes

I went out for some groceries shopping on my own today to find stuff for Maryam's food. Got her a pack of asparagus at a reduced price, she is never introduced to this before. Also as usual other fruits and veges like the Chinese Gong pear, the green per, broccoli, orange sweet potatoes and potatoes. Also got her two pieces of salmon for about RM8. It says special price on the tag anyway. Was looking for some berries, namely blueberries but their shelves were empty. That well spells W.E.E.K.E.N.D. I still got a butternut squash that my mum bought for Maryam from Cameron Highlands, which has yet to be used.

Last week upon returning from kampong I speedily made pureed foods for Maryam. I am so delighted that she liked them very much. I added strawberries in them and so far she is a good fan of strawberries although when I tasted the final product that I made (I usually do) my heart went to palpitations. The first strawberry puree was too sour to taste and this time, too bland. But to my amazement and excitement Maryam apparently loves loves loves it. Oh and this time I added one kiwi too. Alhamdulillah she likes them all. Let me share with you what the concoction entail yeah.

Strawberries (1 box) + 1 kiwi fruit + apples (3 small golden delicious apples) + 1 gong pear + rice porridge

- this time I added quite a few scoops of rice porridge and I didn't blend it for too long in the food processor so that the texture isn't that watery and appears more chunky. Maryam's got 4 teeth now anyway!

Another recipe here for her morning meal this week:

Butternut squash + carrots + Japanese sweet potato + chicken

Her meal in kampong, which I exclusively prepared over there using the traditional kitchen stove, as opposed to electric steamer.

Butternut squash + purple sweet potato + potatoes + Fuji apple.

All the above came from Cameron Highlands, except the apple which was bought by my dad from a convenience store nearby.

P/s:

  • I bought a pack of couscous the other day. Am looking for some lovely couscous recipes to begin with.
  • I haven't introduced Maryam to beef yet!
  • Does Maryam's keenness to strawberries have anything to do with the fact that she was born in the Europe? Huhu.

You go girl!

Alhamdulillah 'ala kulli hal.

Grapes anyone?

My Maryam Sophia is 8 months, 2 weeks and 1 day old today.

I fed Maryam 2 raw green grapes today, her first ever taste of grapes. Bought them at Tesco, seedless and was hoping for them to be sweet. Unfortunately they aren't huhu. Nevertheless Maryam liked it such that she managed to gobble down the two of them to non-existence, at her own time of course.

She always make that unusual expression of being curious about what did I hand her with when it is a first time for something. So no different she stared at the green fruit which I had peeled off the skin and pitted the stone, then moved her eyes to land onto my face and slowly brought the piece of grape to her mouth. She jittered a bit to its sourness at first but she didn't refuse when I gave her more such that she managed to finish the whole one grape.

I made sure that she didn't have an empty stomach before I introduced her to the sour grape to avoid the acidity of the fruit from irritating her tummy.

The second time I gave her another grape was after she had had her dinner, and she finished the whole lot too. Ummi is so proud of you dear! Alhamdulillah.

Anyways at Tesco I also got her a box of strawberries, as she loved them so much the first (and last) time I made her a puree out of that. As well I got her kiwi fruit which she has never had a taste of it yet, and another new thing is a type of vegetable, Pak Choy.  I strongly hope and pray that Maryam won't have any allergies to anything, ameen. (That is why I have been very [if not overly] vigilant in watching what Maryam is eating).

My honeybunch eating a piece of grape.

Below is a picture showing Maryam pulling herself up by grabbing on the duvet. I noticed today that she has become more courageous that she made attempts to let go of what she was holding on and tried to stand independently. Although that was very minimal and she fell down in a split second but that was a wonderful try. She is getting more confident to move about and is gaining more strength in her legs. Her crawling is great too. She is not that busy baby who can't stay in one place and is always on the move that is difficult to control. I think Maryam takes after her Abi a lot, more patient and has excellent focus in what she is doing. Keep it up schweetheart!

Keep going Maryam!

Maryam officially has 4 teeth now. You know how hard it is to examine her upper gums but today I got her lying on her back and managed to see that the two teeth on her upper gum are now well cut that the total 4 of them will make efficient cutting huhu. She is ready for a chunkier, lumpier food I guess huh.

I am working on night today. May Allah bestow her blessings on my loved ones and I.

Alhamdulillah 'ala kulli hal.

P/s:
I am still wondering when exactly can I give Maryam foods other than fresh foods and the food that I prepare her. Hmm. May Allah give me guidance.

Fish

Smell something fishy today? Hehe.

Maryam is 8 months and 1 week old today and I finally gave her a taste of fish. Salmon that was. I had been wanting to do so since the past few weeks and was looking for a good fish recipe for babies to begin with.

This time around I layered a tray with the aluminium foil, chopped the salmon steaks into smaller chunks, and placed them onto the foil before wrapping the chunks with the ends of the foil.

In the meantime I steamed cube-cut potatoes, carrots and Chinese pear (lai fruit) before adding small florets of broccoli a bit later.

Unfortunately I left the salmon probably a bit too long in the oven such that it became hard and slightly overcooked, that I worried if it will get blended well with the steamed ingredients at all. It was pretty impossible to flake off the fish with a fork due to its hardness. Hehe. Oh forgot to tell you that I put a slice of cheddar onto each salmon chunk when the salmon was already baked in the oven just for the sake of giving it some taste. Didn't want to burn the cheese for introducing it too early, but it did burn anyway huhu.

So I literally flaked off the salmon with my hands, at the same time deboning any remaining hidden tiny bones and removing the shiny skin. On top of that I poured the flakes into a dry blender and blended them into tiny pieces to a texture similar to fish serunding.

Then I mixed the finely blended fish with the steamed ingredients in the food processor, all together.

Guess what, Maryam loves it! Alhamdulillah.

Also, I made a mango and butternut squash puree. Hope Maryam'll like it too.

New recipes:

  1. Salmon + cheddar + potato + carrot + Chinese pear + broccoli puree
  2. Mango + butternut squash puree

 Alhamdulillah 'ala kulli hal.

P/s: Maryam did smell fishy fish after having gobbled down the whole cup of her fish puree today :).

Strawberry Apple puree

I bought a small box of strawberries last week for RM10 at Tesco and had yet to use it for making Maryam's dish until last weekend. I had been waiting for her to turn into 8 months old before I introduce her to berries.

In order to preserve their freshness and quality I froze them in the freezer so that they won't get stale or rotten due to the delay in using them. They were stone-hard when I took them out of the freezer. So I left them in room temperature hoping that they will become less hard thus easier to peel off the skin.

Then I cut them into small cubes before adding them together with 3 cube-cut apples already steamed in the steamer to soften. Strawberries easily become watery and soft on handling so they don't need to be steamed that long. I also cooked some baby rice in the rice cooker at the same time.

After a few minutes of steaming I took both the apples and strawberries out and poured them into the food processor. I scooped some well-cooked baby rice into the mixture and blended them altogether.

I had a taste of the puree and thought it was pretty nice, a bit sour to the tongue but overall quite good. The rice didn't blend into non-existence so I left them quite coarse in the puree for Maryam to chew on.

Guess what, she loves it so much. I am so happy to know she doesn't need to be 'forced' to eat when it comes to the strawberries and apple puree that I made. She has always been a fussy eater- NOT anyway. Alhamdulillah. Maryam seems to be liking expensive food ya?
(Last time she loved mangoes and hated papayas).

Alhamdulillah.

I also made another heavier puree for Maryam in the same session.
Baby rice + chicken + carrots + sweet potato + chinese pears (lai) + broccoli

Lovin' her to bits!!

1st On Night

Yesterday was a long day for me, well that's why it is called 'Long Day'. Was working from 7am to 11+ pm. Phew! Fortunately I'm off work during the day today as I am On Night tonight. Will be working from 10pm till 1pm the next day. May Allah grant me ease.

Maryam is 7 months 2 weeks and 3 days old today. She has developed a few more skills now. As I've told you that she is now able to crawl, the speed of crawling has been up and up. She's getting more confident in moving her limbs to transfer from a place to another. It is so rewarding seeing my baby crawling towards me in excitement despite her, struggling. I thank Allah for this gift.

I have noticed that she has this tendency to pull herself up to stand when she reaches a destination after she finishes crawling. That means when she completes her 'journey' towards me she will slowly and steadily try to get up by getting hold onto my arms and shoulders. I prefer to let her do it herself so she will learn from her mistakes but sometimes she gets tired quickly and starts to cry for assistance hehe.

Her balance has crept up to quite an achievement given her age. I sometimes let her go off my hold when she stands so that she can bear on her own feet independently even just for a few seconds. I hope she will get to walk without help very soon.

About her teeth, she now has one half-cut tooth and another one soon-to-cut tooth that I can appreciate its shade by looking at the lower gum. Cute. Have yet to get to capture a clear picture of the teeth.

I made food for her again today. 'Cook' is quite an overstatement I think ;).
2 versions so that she won't get bored easily insyaAllah.

  • Rice porridge + chicken + carrot + butternut squash + 'buah lai' + peach
  • Rice porridge + chicken + 'kacang panjang' + potatoes + mango
So no apples this time around hehe. I gave the 2nd puree a taste on my fingertips and I thought it was really good, like I can surely gobble the whole cup down if I were to do so I think. Hihi.

Ok gotta prepare for my On Nite.
Hope all will go well.
Ameen & alhamdulillah.

P/s: Dearie hubby is baking a banana cake in the kitchen upon my request. Yums! Aren't I just lucky? Huhu.

New Recipes

Analysing Annabel Karmel's pattern of giving foods to babies I noticed that she recommends giving different foods on each meal time every day. As a general rule of thumb, we ourselves would easily feel bored if we were to eat the same thing every time isn't it? As well we can avoid our babies from developing constipation by let's say giving them puree consisting mainly rice alternated with puree consisting mainly fruits.

Anyway just wanted to share with you guys that I successfully invented two new recipes for Maryam today. As I told you before I am running out of ideas when it comes to varying Maryam's food. Recipes online and in the book that I bought also lack the use of other local Malaysian fruit and vegetables, such as rambutan, duku, sawi and kacang buncis.

Was walking in the Pacific groceries store in KB Mall when I spotted beautiful fresh green kacang buncis on the shelf. Couldn't help myself from buying them for Maryam as they simply didn't have not a single black mark to indicate 'unfreshness'. Huhu.

Therefore the first recipe that I 'invented' today is a mixture of pureed baby rice + pears x 2 (buah lai) + carrot + sweet potato (Ubi Jepun which is sweeter than ubi keledek) + KACANG BUNCIS!

Tadaa! See the bright green colour?

On the other hand, the second recipe is potato + apple + banana + plums (3) puree. Wasn't planning to add in banana until I tasted the puree which was a bit sour to due to the plums.

Hope she'll love these!

Alhamdulillah.

New Findings

Rash

I noticed that since we got a new helper small papules started to reemerge on Maryam's face. Yeah she used to have plenty of them when she was small but they gradually went away until there wasn't any up to the point before this new helper arrive, somewhat. She wasn't so used to be taken care of by the helper so she cried quite a lot at first, including when she was being bathed in the tub. Therefore to speed up things (I think) the helper just wiped away Maryam's body with a towel very quickly that she probably missed some spots or the body wasn't completely dry before the lotion and talc were applied (not to blame her though).

Remember Maryam used to develop boils on her head before? She does have a higher tendency to get her hair follicles blocked so slight poor 'maintenance' of her skin can lead to a devastating outcome i.e. baby acne. That was the reason behind the new finding I thought, until another helper who is looking after my niece brought up the issue that Marissa developed a similar thing when she began eating solids. That lighted up a bulb in my head that another possibility is that she is a bit sensitive or 'intolerant' to something that we had been feeding her.

Well I guess it is about watching and evaluating, I am introducing new foods to her very slowly so I am hoping that if there was anything that might've caused her to develop the papules, we would be able to tell. Hope there isn't any.

Drinking

I spotted my helper giving Maryam water in a cup, and she is able to drink it gracefully alhamdulillah. I haven't bought a proper sipping cup for Maryam, the one that we have is unfortunately not BPA-free so I thought we better off stay away from using it now when Maryam is still learning to accept solids. She is making good progress so far, thank God.

Chewing

I gave her small lumps of banana yesterday by pinching some with my fingers. She liked it that she opened her mouth wide until the 6th time that she felt she had had enough I think. Hehe. I love to see her expression of appreciating the new texture i.e. a lumpier food as she was only used to eating watery or yogurt-like stuff only. I was also told that Maryam managed to chew on half a Baby Bites biscuit. Bravo Maryam!

6 Months Summary

I haven't been blogging for a while. Did ya miss me? Huhu.

Now Maryam has passed 6 months of age and has eaten a variety of foods. Alhamdulillah she isn't a fussy eater I can conclude, as she gobbles down nearly everything we spoon her so far. She weighed 7.0kg about a month ago, don't know how much has she put on (or off :S) now that she has weaned huhu.

What have I given her for the past roughly a fortnight?

  • Carrot + breastmilk puree
  • Butternut squash + apple puree
  • Mango puree
  • Butternut squash + pear + carrot puree
  • Heinz Original Rusks biscuit + breastmilk
  • Papaya puree
  • Sweet potato + carrot + apple puree
  • Sweet potato +  carrot + apple + pear puree
  • Banana puree

Of all the above Maryam doesn't particularly fancy papayas. She didn't show much interest in the carrot + breastmilk puree either. However she loves bananas and mangoes, just like her ummi for the latter hehe.

As for now I am alarmingly running out of ideas as to what should I give her next. I read about concerns regarding giving babies citrus fruits and berries so I am a bit worried to introduce her those. She is still waking up a few times at night, which I positively thought she wouldn't once she starts eating.

Hmm, I am thinking I probably will begin giving her baby rice next week, with some meat too i.e. chicken. Also she hasn't had a taste of green vegetables yet, better do it soon. Hope she'll enjoy the new recipe and flavours :). InsyaAllah.

I wanna eat the camera!

See ummi, I am!

Pity Mr Owlie hanging upside down he is.

And I am proud and thankful.. :)

Oopsie

Wallahua'lam.

1st meal

Maryam had her first spoon of meal today at 5 months 3 weeks and 4 days old. I made her carrot puree added with some expressed breast milk (EBM) to make it a bit runny. I tasted it when it was ready and I thought it wasn't so bad, a bit sweet to the taste.

I was all so excited to begin feeding her I started off by getting her seated in her bumbo seat, then put the play tray in place and wrapped her chest with a decent bib. The first half-scoop of the puree got her a bit surprised with the new flavour that she slowly licked the content to appreciate its difference from breast milk, in both texture and taste.

She seemed to be enjoying this new activity of formal eating until she began to show signs that she had had enough after a few spoons- as if she was going to bring everything that she had eaten back up. She only managed to finish close to half of the portion of puree that I brought to her.

At the end of the feeding session she was all messy. The orange-coloured puree smeared all around her mouth and on her chin, not to mention on her bib and the play tray! Great job after all, sweetie. She had 2 sessions of carrot puree today, one at lunchtime and another at dinnertime.

I plan to give Maryam one type of meal per day at this early stage however when I gave Maryam to be looked after by the helper I was startled to find her holding a rusk biscuit with her mouth munching it. I thought that it would have been too soon to introduce her solids as she has just after starting weaning. I were to give her biscuits I would have soften them with some EBM first then only introduce them with spoon for her to swallow. I don't think we need to rush in giving her different type of foods. She should be allow to take her time and enjoy these first moments, she is gonna be eating for the rest of her life after this anyway innit? So let's get her to sit back and relax, go with her pace and keep an eye on any setbacks or allergies, naudzubillah.

Nenoneno my finger got injured

Bon apetit!

Weaning signs

I am not complaining but just saying, these past few days have been a great challenge for me when the night came. I couldn't sleep well and if you have never seen panda eyes in a human being, I might be able to show you a pair of them.

Today Maryam is 6 days from turning into a 6 month old and she has developed this habit of frequent feeding at night where she seems to be unsatisfied being fed with breast milk alone. Previously she would wake up once to thrice on any night for a feed and would quickly fall asleep after her need had been fulfilled. However now she can stay latched on for only a few seconds then she becomes impatient, detaches herself and cries out loud. That spells H.E.L.P.L.E.S.S for the mommy. It happens so often throughout the night I can't get enough rest from my sleep.

Planning to get her eating today. *excited* *excited*

Maryam wants to eat!

Maryam has been showing signs of weaning more and more. According to the "Weaning" book by Annabel Karmel signs that our babies are ready for weaning include:

  • Show some interest in what you are eating, may reach out to taste it [CHECK]
    • Witness the pictures below will ya?
  • Hungier than usual, possibly waking at night when he previously slept through [CHECK]
    • No wonder Maryam seems unsatisfied when I feed her with breastmilk directly at night, in which she cries and keeps on latching on and off rendering me sleepless till the morning.
  • Holding his head up, controlling movements [CHECK]
    • She is still learning to sit up independently tripod position but alhamdulillah holding her head up is not her current problem
  • Attempting to put things into his mouth [CHECK]
    • A big YES
  • Making chewing motions [CHECK]
