Mini Me is 7 days old today, yippie! Alhamdulillah. Such a coincidence, three 'milestones' were reached today hehe. 

You know the way the short remnant of the umbilical cord is cut and clipped as soon as the baby is born? My baby also has one, or had one rather. It was blue in colour. We hadn't been paying much attention to it except that to be extra careful when putting on her diaper, making sure that it passes below the stump. While breastfeeding her early this morning my hand appreciated something down her back underneath her bodysuit. Was wondering what on earth was it initially then quickly picked up- must be her clip. Then when the hubby changed her diaper a few minutes later he suddenly declared, "Ohh the stump is gone!". So there you go, no more clip dangling on your bellybutton dear :). 

Mini Me received another visitor today. A public health nurse called in at about 12.10pm to see how the baby is doing and how am I coping. She was so nice that she offered to take off her shoes when she noticed my bare feet with my slippers at the corner off the rug. Baby got weighed and her height measured today. 3440 grams and 54cm tall. She was born at 3550g, the weight dropped down to 3300g on day 5 and now it has climbed up again, yeay! Poor thing though, she is still jaundiced today. But I know mommy's most favourite girl will pull through!

Thirdly, Mini Me got her first dose of Vitamin D today. It is meant to be given 5 drops daily up to the baby being 12 months old. The brand that we use is Abidec, the only Vitamin D3 drops available in the pharmacy that my hubby went to if I'm not mistaken.. The writing on the box says, "Given Ireland and UK's latitude (51 degree to 55 degree North) little or no vitamin D is produced from sunlight, particularly during the winter months". Good girl, she only grimaced and didn't cry or spit out the drops when we administered it with a baby's spoon. 

Wan Maryam Sophia

Hubby loves the name Maryam, while I like the name Sophia. "The noble Maryam" is what it becomes. Wan is a must, as you know huhu. The name Sophia has underlying associations with our names. My name begins with the letter S thus S-ophia, is one. Secondly my husband's nickname is 'Usop' for his name Yusof, so the Sop part forms the first half of Sop-hia. I also discovered that the name Sophie, or its variations is the top name for girl babies in many European countries in these recent years, including Ireland! Therefore Sophia kind of leaves a sweet memory of our experience in Ireland having her. 

After all may this be a wonderful name for her, that she strives to be as good a muslimah as she can, like Maryam a.s. Ameen.
